The Cabildo de Tenerife programs ten craft courses



The Cabildo de Tenerife has scheduled ten courses for craftspeople in training or those who, being one, want to recycle and expand their knowledge and skills.

The councilor for the area, Carmen Luz Baso, explained that the objective of this program is to help preserve, disseminate and promote the artisan trades of Tenerife: “In this way we contribute to the search for generational change and its sustainability over time, since these trades have a high cultural and heritage component, which are at high risk of disappearing”.

The first five courses, which have been scheduled through the Insular Craft Company, which depends on the area of ​​Socioeconomic Development, Employment and Foreign Action, and whose enrollment will be opened online Starting next Monday, February 7, they are for beginners and will attend to chestnut, cane and wicker basketry, rosette making, fretwork, embroidery and cutlery. Likewise, another five are planned that will take place from the second semester and will attend to a more advanced state in the ceramic craft professions, both in pottery and in enamel, leather goods and traditional clothing.

The introductory courses will all take place in La Orotava, in the Museum of Ibero-American Crafts, except for Basketry, which will take place in the Casa Amarilla, in San José, municipality of San Juan de La Rambla.

The introductory basketry course will be held between March 7 and June 8, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; except Easter and May 30 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Initiation to the elaboration of rosettes will be in the morning, from 09.30 to 13.30 hours on March 4, 11, 18 and 25 and April 1. The draft, however, will be held in the afternoons, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on the same days. The embroidery course will be held on March 5, 12, 19, 26 and April 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the cutlery course will be held from April 4 to 8 in the afternoons from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

These courses, all of them face-to-face, are subsidized by the Cabildo de Tenerife and are aimed at the general public over 18 years of age and resident in Tenerife. Registration will be done through the page www.artenerife.com and all workshops have a registration fee of 10 euros.
