There are no longer excuses not to get vaccinated against Covid. The Ministry of Health of the Canarian Government has proposed to inoculate the largest possible number of the population and that is why it started a campaign yesterday in schools, to which several vacuguaguas arrived so that the ‘super children’ are also protected.
The ministries of Health and Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands Vaccination of part of the pediatric population in schools has begun. Both cabinets started this pilot project yesterday in three educational centers of the capital islands. In this way, doses of the vaccine were administered to students between 5 and 11 years of age who had not yet been vaccinated, students whom they call the superpeques.
The first vaccination day was carried out in the CEIP Tíncer and CEIP San Matías, located in Tenerife, and CEIP Tinguaro de Vecindario, in Gran Canaria. These three centers had volunteered to participate in this pilot project. This activity begins with the forecast of seven educational centers that have voluntarily decided to participate and that have the parents’ willingness to carry it out. During the month of February, the programming may be expanded depending on the number of families that show their agreement to participate in the action.
This vaccination campaign in schools It is being carried out in the vacuguaguas of the Canary Health Service (SCS). These are mobile points that provide greater flexibility and comfort in the movement of health teams and represent a more relaxed place for minors to receive the injection. In addition, they allow vaccination to be carried out in spaces adapted for this activity. Likewise, it makes it possible to personalize the time and date of vaccination since the Ministry of Health has announced that it will adapt to the agendas of the centers that want to adhere to this vaccination process by going to the schools when they prefer. More than fifteen professionals from the SCS, including specialists in Family and Community Medicine, nurses and Nursing assistants, will attend a school each week to facilitate access to vaccination.
The age group for which this vaccination initiative is intended is made up in the Canary Islands by a pediatric population of 136,910 children, of whom 66,974, that is, 48.92%, have already received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine in the points enabled by the Ministry of Health throughout the Archipelago, since last December 15 they began to vaccinate this group.
The campaign will be repeated in other centers of the capital islands “that volunteered”
Coinciding with this first day of vaccination in schools in the Canary Islands, the president of the Canarian Pediatric Society, Luis Ortigosa, advised that the pediatric population receive this medicine “to protect it and others”: “Vaccines are safe, effective and save lives. Parents who do not want their children to be vaccinated at school can go to the vaccination centers authorized for this purpose every day of the week, including weekends, to facilitate conciliation and access.
