SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 1 (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife and the Santa Cruz City Council will make a center available to citizens to carry out various actions integrated into the DUSI Strategy of the Metropolitan Southwest, which will serve to improve digital skills and offer training and other services to the population of La Gallega, El Sobradillo, Barranco Grande, San Matías and Tíncer.
The signing of an agreement between the two institutions will allow this new center to start up, which will be located in premises provided by the Consistory on Calle Chiriguer de Barranco Grande.
The president of the Cabildo explained that the Island Corporation will invest a total of 587,000 euros between this year and the next to carry out refurbishment works, buy furniture and computer equipment, as well as to launch actions to boost new digital skills aimed at neighbors .
Pedro Martín wanted to recall that in order to move towards urban development that lastingly improves social, economic and environmental conditions, it is necessary to reduce the digital divide, increasing the skills of citizens in this area. “That is why this Lighthouse Center will be launched, in which, in addition, training and employment services will be provided, technological entrepreneurship and projects will be carried out in the field of information society both with the population and with companies”, he added.
Once the agreement between the two administrations has been signed, the Cabildo will proceed to acquire the furniture and technological equipment necessary for the new center to begin providing services as soon as possible, “if possible, this summer,” said the island president. The City Council, for its part, in addition to giving up the premises, will take care of paying for the supplies, such as water, electricity or security.
Pedro Martín stressed that society “is going through rapid and very numerous changes related to digital transformation and it is necessary to integrate the entire population with public initiatives such as this one to avoid exclusion that would affect above all those people less familiar with technology, as can older people.
