“For this they do not go up”: the Teide is filled with garbage after the last snowfall

The low temperatures that have been present in recent days in Canary Islands have caused the return of the snow to the Mount Teide. A scenario in which many people do not want to miss the moment of climbing the highest peak in Spain to enjoy the landscape. But not everyone does them responsibly.

It must be made clear that, as in all these types of situations, it is a minority, the problem is that this minority tarnishes the behavior of a majority that respects the place, understanding that, in order to preserve it, it is key not to dirty it or to behave uncivic in it.

The plastic-free Canary Islands association has published a video on its Instagram account in which, unfortunately, they once again have to denounce all those irresponsible people. Garbage bags, food remains or elements such as parasols, with which they have previously slid through the snowy areas, remain there, degrading the landscape.

Last January, the Civil Guard notified three complaints for environmental violations and more than thirty complaints for traffic violations during the services carried out this month as a result of the snowfall in the Teide National Park.

Most of the complaints were filed for failing to comply with the road closure decreed by the Cabildo de Tenerife as well as for parking in prohibited and unauthorized places, highlighting the infraction for carrying snowmen on the hood of the car, since it makes it difficult to see driving and can fall onto the road, constituting a danger to other road users.
