The area of highways Council of Tenerife Works to improve road safety on the TF-13 will begin on Monday as it passes through the municipality of Tegueste, in the surroundings of the Ciudad Deportiva Los Laureles, the IES Tegueste and the facilities of the Canarian Foundation for People with Deafness and their Families (Funcasor). The budget is 442,497 euros.

The Minister of Roads, Enrique Arriaga (Cs), explains in a note that “With the action, an important remodeling of the area will be carried out.” And he adds: “A landscaped median will be built, which prevents vehicles from making unauthorized maneuvers, as well as sidewalks and lay-bys for school buses, and traffic lights will be placed to regulate the traffic of pedestrians and vehicles.”

The road has been waiting for years for a broader action at other points

Arriaga recalls “the high density of traffic that is registered at this point and the important road safety problems that occur daily on this road that connects the municipalities of Tegueste and La Laguna, and that in recent years it has lost its ability to service”. The insular director of Highways, Tomás Félix García, points out that the General Directorate of Traffic, already in 2017, considered that the area where the works are going to be carried out is a “black spot”.

For years, the TF-13 has been waiting for a larger project that also improve the section between Tejina and Punta del Hidalgo. Instead, the actions that are now going to be carried out will focus on a section in Tegueste. «The residents of the area, as well as different groups, have requested a solution; now we respond to the demand, ”said the insular institution.

The works will begin on Monday during daylight hours and it is estimated that they will be completed within six months. More in detail, the proposed intervention will execute sidings for school buses and sidewalks for pedestrian traffic. The construction of a median, the increase of the platform, the placement of traffic lights and pedestrian crossings, as well as the demolition of the existing drainage network and installation of the new one with buried collectors, manholes, and surface catchment grids are planned. .
