After the announcement by Roads of Council of Tenerife of the closure of the TF-24 highway, at the height of La Esperanza, after detecting the presence of ice sheets and water-snow on the road, the Security account of the insular Corporation has insisted on the need to “be prudent” and refrain from trying to access the summits of Teide.

The Council of Tenerife ruled out starting the ‘Operative Snowfall’ and that a bus circuit be used to access the snow in the Teide National Park after the snowfall recorded this Wednesday at the top of the island.

❄️🌨️ Avoid climbing the summits of Tenerife. The accesses by TF24 are closed and there is presence of ice on the road. Be cautious.

The Civil Guard this weekend will increase its presence in the Las Canadas del Teide National Park and also in the summits of La Palma due to the forecast of crowds of people to see the snow fallen these days.

In a statement, the Civil Guard points out that this massive influx of visitors “on many occasions entails risk situations, both due to the presence of snow, and the crowding” of people and vehicles, which forces the establishment of “certain limitations and rules” to regulate access.

It is recommended to follow the indications marked for circulation and pay attention to the signs, as well as to the weather conditions, especially in case of snowfall or the appearance of ice sheets on the road.

It also advises checking the condition of the vehicle beforehand, especially the tires, lights and windshield wipers; wear reflective vests to walk on the road and carry charged phones, as low temperatures also contribute to the faster use of the battery.
