The Tenerife Chamber asks to “improve and agree” on the proposal for self-employed quotas

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Chamber of Commerce of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has been in favor of regulating the quota of self-employed workers based on their income, but warns that “treating well” such an important part of the productive fabric must be a priority.

The president of the Chamber, Santiago Sesé, insisted on the need to “continue working and deepen more” in the initial proposal submitted by the Ministry of Social Security, which divides the installments to be paid into thirteen tranches and which would establish as of January 2023 a progressive system of increasing the cost of the fees to be paid, taking their income as a reference instead of allowing them to establish their contribution base.

“From the Chamber we support an equitable system in which the payment of fees is proportional to the income of each worker. However, it is important to be prudent in the percentages to be established,” says Sesé.

Likewise, he believes that it will be necessary to analyze the effects of this new system proposed by the Executive on the possible benefits of the self-employed, including retirement, to the extent that a reasonable minimum income can be ensured for those who contribute in the lowest brackets. .

On the other hand, he also considers it positive that the possibility of allowing the self-employed to contribute to a higher base is opened if they so wish, since this will strengthen the contributory piggy bank and, therefore, they will be able to benefit from better benefits.

Likewise, Santiago Sesé highlights the importance of maintaining the current conditions to benefit from the flat rate during the first years: “This measure is essential to continue promoting entrepreneurship and at no time should it be linked to paying less than the minimum wage, since in the first years of activity is when there can be greater volatility in the billing of a self-employed person”.

From the Chamber they also insist on the need for this new system to bring “facilities and flexibility” to the self-employed, especially in the Canarian environment, whose economy is strongly affected by seasonality: “it seems to us a success that it is allowed to modify the section up to a maximum of six times throughout the year, but it is necessary to detail this point more, which is of special interest for the self-employed in the Canary Islands”.

“In short, it is essential that there is consensus between the Government and the self-employed associations on key aspects of this system, such as, for example, what will be considered as income to establish one or another contribution base, the number of sections to establish or the years in which this system will be fully implemented”, concludes the president of the Chamber.
