SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 25 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands has paid an aid of 2.7 million for 148 owners of wineries affected by the pandemic, more specifically due to the closure of restaurants and the fall in trade.

This was announced by the director responsible for the Area, Alicia Vanoostende, during a visit to Bodegas Tempus SAT of the Güímar Denomination of Origin, on the island of Tenerife.

This transfer, carried out by the company GMR Canarias, represents “important support for a sector that has lived through two complex years due to the loss of sales as a result of the stoppage of the hotel and tourism industry as a result of the health crisis”, pointed out the minister .

“This is a strategic sector that makes our products have quality and are known and demanded outside the islands, and for this reason, in the last two years we have enabled more than 5 million in direct aid to compensate for losses and return as much as possible. back to normal,” he added.

Alicia Vanoostende explained that the difficult situation generated in the agri-food sector by the impact of covid-19 has required the promotion of extraordinary measures to reduce the effects of the lack of activity and profitability, so the damage will continue to be assessed in case it is necessary to allocate more aid that guarantees the continuity of the different subsectors.

Likewise, he highlighted the “exemplary work” of the Bodega Tempus SAT, whose Luna de Yariza Blanco Barrica wine was recognized as the best wine chosen by the winemakers of the Canary Islands in the Agrocanarias 2021 Contest, in addition to achieving the great gold medal in this same contest. Vanoostende was able to tour, hand in hand with its owner Rafael de León, the facilities of a winery that completes its activity with tourism through pairings, tastings and guided tours.

For his part, Rafael de León thanked the counselor for the visit and highlighted his sensitivity to the sector. “In this winery we have opted to offer quality, new and different products, publicizing our activity and opening our wine heritage to the public. The wine sector must focus on making specific and special vinifications that can reach the local consumer and the market. outside,” he explained.

Bodegas Tempus SAT organizes visits to schools and institutes so that students can learn about the vineyards, the types of grapes and the winemaking process.
