SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The new president of the Popular Party of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, has admitted that he has no “allergies” when it comes to agreeing with the PSOE if necessary to form a Government in the Canary Islands after the next elections, as long as there is a confluence of programs. “It’s not worth going into government for government’s sake. Not everything is worth it here, not just anything is worth it. You have to be clear about it and to reach agreements you have to talk about programs.”

In an interview with Radio Marca Tenerife, collected by Europa Press, Manuel Domínguez highlighted that the Popular Party is already being talked about “as a possible member of the future Government of the Canary Islands”, since “we are committed to future agreements with any formation”, except with Podemos, “a party born to create problems and not to solve them”. In any case, he warned that perhaps “it is the other parties that have to agree with the Popular Party and not the PP with them.”

Manuel Domínguez said that he does not rule out “at all” that there is an agreement between the Canarian Coalition and the PSOE for the next elections, and acknowledged that perhaps it is one of the options that are being considered today “with greater firmness.” Moreover, he did not hide that in this legislature there has already been “some threat” in this regard.

The new leader of the popular Canarians wanted to make it clear that the objective of the PP is to be a “fundamental element” for the next government and even govern the Islands. Domínguez asserts that he feels qualified to govern and assures that he would accept being president with eleven deputies as long as the situation was ideal. “But I would accept it without a doubt,” he said.

In any case, he considers it a mistake that in the Government there are confluences between areas between different parties, and gives as an example the case of Visocan (in the hands of ASG) and the Canarian Housing Institute (directed by the PSOE), “very much at odds ” because we are facing “two different parties that govern the same area”.

From his point of view, he believes that Visocan has been put in “handcuffs” so that “it does not carry out all the actions that it could develop because it is not from the councilor’s own party. Visocan is much more agile than what is being at present, but it is not allowed to be, not because it cannot, but because they do not want it to be because of the leading role”.

Regarding the candidates for the 2023 elections, Manuel Domínguez advanced that in the next meeting he holds with the island presidents of the party, the first task will be to define the names of the candidates for the councils, the island capitals, as well as the the cities of Telde and La Laguna.

On the other hand, he announced that yesterday he signed his letter of resignation from the island presidency, which will be assumed by Emilio Navarro, mayor of Santiago del Teide. And regarding whether he will continue as mayor of Los Realejos, he said that this will be one of the issues he will discuss next Friday with Pablo Casado, as well as whether he will be the PP candidate in the next elections for the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands.
