SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The work to repair the broken pipe of the reclaimed water transport network, as it passes through the municipality of Güímar, continues at a good pace, as reported by the Cabildo de Tenerife. The pipeline, whose length is 62 km, supplies directly to the Valle San Lorenzo reservoir, which together with the San Isidro and El Saltadero reservoirs complete the reclaimed water storage system in the south of the island.

The storage level is at 81%, with some 617,604.15 m3. This conduit, which transports about 300l/s by gravity, or what is the same, 1,080m3/h, has been affected by the waves as it is in an area affected by the sea and by works carried out by the city council on a nearby track. to the hydraulic installation.

Currently, for the supply of irrigation water, in addition to the contributions of this pipeline, the south of the island has since August 2019 the desalinated waters of Fonsalía and San Isidro, in addition to the flows from the water station regenerated Adeje/Arona, “which gives greater guarantees than in the past, without forgetting the improvement in the interconnection between storage spaces that we have achieved”, said the island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla,

The works are expected to last 15 days, so this reclaimed water supply capacity to the ponds in the southern part of the island will be interrupted within this period. “As this area is irrigated with reclaimed water, it allows us to give peace of mind to farmers because they will have water for the crops that depend on the irrigation networks,” said Parrilla.

The counselor explained that the Cabildo has demonstrated its ability to react by increasing the volume stored by 3% in just 10 days. This means that farmers have 140,773.53m3 more water available in the rafts of Tenerife. In this sense, the level of the irrigation ponds for the entire south of the island was, as of January 20, at 72% of its capacity.

The complexity of the actions recommend caution in the face of the situation. They are located in an area of difficult access and the repair of the conduit must be carried out with heavy machinery. “Regarding the work, it must be added that the replacement of the service will be carried out through a new route that will guarantee the execution and guarantee the permanence of the work,” said Parrilla, who added his gratitude to the “high efficiency of Balten’s staff in the face of these performances.”

“We have been working on its improvement for two years, but in addition, we have had other routes that always guarantee water. We have already experienced a similar situation in 2019 at Los Moriscos and, although the actions of the Balten workers have been impeccable, we must be forewarned”, concluded Parrilla.
