SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The collection of taxes in the Canary Islands reached 2,291.9 million euros last year, which represents an increase of 12% compared to the previous year (2020) and an execution of 104.13% on what was consigned in the 2021 budgets , according to the provisional data handled by the Canary Islands Tax Agency.

This amount exceeds by 90.8 million the forecast made by the Government of the Canary Islands in the Budget Law of that year.

The Vice President and Minister of Finance, Budgets and European Affairs, Román Rodríguez, expressed this Friday his satisfaction with the results that will not suffer much variation from the final ones and that “point to the economic recovery of the islands, not in vain the collection of the different tax figures, including those closely correlated with the evolution of the economy, such as the IGIC”.

Rodríguez assured that these data, together with those known in recent weeks in relation to the decrease in unemployment or the increase in affiliations to Social Security, place the islands “in a good starting position to face this 2022 and consolidate that scenario of recovery”.

“It is true that we have not yet exceeded the level of 2019, the last year before the pandemic, but little by little we are getting closer,” said the vice president in a note, who specified that the 2022 budgets provide for a collection of 2,587.7 million euros, an amount very close to what was actually collected in 2019, which was 2,602 million.

In this regard, he insisted on the “realism, prudence and diligence” with which the Government of the Canary Islands has prepared its three budgets, “which has been proven in recent years with the success of the different forecasts, especially in those of income as well as in budget execution”.

In his opinion, the data from the Tax Agency “point to the doomsayers who predicted a budgetary disaster due to an alleged overestimation of tax collection, which has not occurred nor will it occur this year.”

REF TAXES GROW BY 8.16%

According to the data provided by the Canarian Tax Agency, the collection of own and assigned taxes was 789.4 million euros, which represents an execution of 118.79% with respect to the initial budget and a growth of 20.16 % compared to 2020 and -7.8% compared to 2019.

The collection of the REF (which includes IGIC, AIEM and Registrations) was 1,502.4 million euros, which represents an execution of 97.78% of the initial budget for 2021, a growth of 8.16% over 2020 and a – 13.9% compared to 2019.
