SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Court Number 2 of Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife) has opened proceedings to investigate whether or not there was a crime due to irregularities in the care of the elderly at the Hogar Santa Rita residence for the elderly, judicial sources confirmed to Europa Press.
Specifically, the prosecutor’s complaint for alleged mistreatment of the elderly was admitted for processing, without ruling out the commission of a crime of reckless homicide.
In this way, the court is carrying out the corresponding proceedings and plans to take a statement from the head of the center in the coming weeks.
The opening takes place after, among others, the Government of the Canary Islands contracted, through an emergency procedure, to guarantee the cleanliness and supply of food in said residence during the period in which it had to be intervened by the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria after detecting an outbreak of Covid-19.
This intervention by the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) was carried out, as explained at the time, to act against this outbreak of Covid-19, lasting from the beginning of December 2020 to mid-January 2021, when it was considered controlled. .
In this intervention it was necessary to allocate qualified health personnel from the Hospital de la Candelaria and attend to the rest of the needs of the users to guarantee health care and the good operating conditions of the center, such as cleaning and dining services.
