The Tenerife tram continues to recover its pre-pandemic demand and has exceeded twelve and a half million passengers in 2021. The president of Metrotenerife, Enrique Arriaga, confirms that the 2021 financial year has been closed with a figure of 12.5 million users, 21% more than the previous year.

During 2021, the total demand for the Tenerife tram in the Metropolitan Area network amounted to 12,500,694 passengers, 2.1 more than in 2020 when there were 10,334,894. The transport company of the Cabildo continues with the recovery of the demand indices prior to the pandemic of the Covid-19.

Enrique Arriaga points out that “in the last two years, and despite the health situation we are experiencing, the number of passengers on the tram has been recovering”

“The data shows that this is a safe means of transport for the mobility of the population”

The also vice president of the Cabildo values: “This shows that it is a safe means for the mobility of the population and that the established prevention measures have taken root, based on the guidelines of the Government of the Canary Islands at all times.”

In fact, the demand forecast established last October has been exceeded, when it was estimated that 2021 would end with 12.4 million passengers. Finally, this figure has increased by 100,694 more users.

Since the Tenerife tram began its service to citizens, in 2007, there have been more than 193 million users (193,331,414 passengers) who have traveled on this means of public transport.

Both the Island Council of Tenerife and Metrotenerife thank passengers for their commitment to this means of public transport and the responsibility shown when using it, with compliance with mandatory measures such as the mask.

Since October 2020, and throughout the 2021 financial year, users have had at their disposal the website http://tranviaonline.metrotenerife.com, also available through the ten+móvil application, where they are informed, in real time, of the percentage of occupancy of each tram, based on the limit established by the health authorities, not on the total capacity of the vehicle. If a tram approaches the maximum capacity established by the relevant authorities, a sound warning will be issued at the stop, to urge passengers not to get on said vehicle.
