The Cabildo gives continuity this year to the Tenerife Bonds to encourage consumption in small businesses. The island councilor Carmen Luz Baso highlights the satisfaction of the establishments with the initiative and adds that a new term will open with improvements in the offer to make it more attractive
The Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action area, which Baso directs, announces that the initiative will be maintained during 2022 with the idea of promoting purchases in small retail and hospitality businesses in Tenerife. It should be remembered that the implementation of this tool had initially been limited to the past Christmas period.
The counselor assures that this new period will allow spending the entire budget allocated to the project. He explains that the participating businesses have shown their satisfaction with the initiative, since they have been able to promote sales at a difficult time. “These are small businesses that until now did not have access to this type of commercial tools that have enabled them to build loyalty and expand their clientele,” he values. In total, 171 of 27 municipalities have joined, in which nearly 4,000 vouchers have been distributed.
The program arose with the aim of encouraging consumption during the Christmas campaign in all commercial areas of the Island by placing bonds worth 385,000 euros on the market. It was planned to activate 32,133 distributed between 12,854 for hospitality establishments and 19,279 for retail businesses and service providers.
This week the Popular Party, through its spokesperson, Zaida González, has blamed the Cabildo for the “resounding failure” of the Consumer Bonds campaign. He assures that “of 12,000 companies that could have been accepted, only 155 joined.”
González has described the results as “disastrous”. Remember that the Cabildo “announced with great fanfare that it was going to spend almost 400,000 euros on the campaign.” He concludes: “Two months later, only 155 businesses were part of the initiative, and not thanks to the Cabildo, but to the involvement of municipalities such as Los Realejos or Candelaria.”
