The courts, already painted, are still not open to the public. GIVES

The two sports fields that the El Perú neighborhood has in Santa Cruz have been closed to the public for almost five months, specifically, since the end of September 2021, according to neighbors. Both spaces are included in the rehabilitation program for sports spaces that the Santa Cruz City Council is carrying out, and it is supposed to be an intervention that should not be prolonged over time. Just paint and condition, that was the work plan. Several residents of this area of the capital have contacted DIARIO DE AVISOS, because they assure that this delay “has no explanation” and that “it is not acceptable”.

Those affected say that these are two courts where, until September, many people went to play sports every day. And not only from the neighborhood of El Perú, but from the area of La Cruz del Señor, the neighborhood of La Salud and also from Cuesta Piedra, which are very close. “These fields were always full of young people playing sports. They come from other nearby areas because they are very comfortable because of the parking”, they explain.

These facilities, according to these neighbors, “were closed at the same time”, preventing users from continuing to play basketball, soccer or even tennis, which are the sports that can be practiced in them. “First they painted the fences outside and in December they painted the ground blue. They put the padlocks and nothing more is known. Many weeks have passed, bridges and even Christmas, and no one has returned to work there for a month. And people, and young people, specifically, are still unable to practice sports, ”they indicate. They complain about the slowness with which the Consistory seems to be carrying out these refurbishment works on these two sports fields, the only ones available for hundreds of users. “

This is a tease with all the letters. This has no explanation. If you start fixing some courts, which are a priority for people to play sports and escape, especially in these times we are going through, which are very difficult, it can’t take that long”, lament these neighbors, who denounce the lack of communication from the City Council. “No one has passed by here to report. As if they heard rain. Ignore our complaints”, they add.

TOWN HALL

For its part, from the City Council they defend that these two sports fields were closed only two months ago, specifically, during the past month of November. They detail that the arrangements depend on two areas. One is that of Municipal Housing, while the other, that of painting and provision of sports equipment, of Sports. They assure that the locksmith works are pending to put the networks, as well as the repair of the boards.

From the Consistory they assure that these facilities will be enabled and open to the public within a month.
