The dancer and choreographer Daniel Abreu Bello, National Dance Award in 2014, has become the first favorite son in the history of The Massacre of Acentejo. Last Friday, his native municipality publicly recognized the extraordinary professional career of Daniel Abreu Bello, an artist from Matanzas who has garnered the highest distinctions in Spain for the dance. Merits that have made him worthy, in the opinion of the Municipal Corporation, “of the most important of the honors of the municipality, the title of favorite son».

The recognition took place in a public act in the Municipal Auditorium, during which Abreu was presented with a diploma and the obligatory commemorative medal, with the presence of the honoree, his family, representatives of the municipal groups and a large part of the Municipal Corporation that on April 9, 2015 unanimously approved granting him this honor, which has materialized almost seven years later.

The Councilor for Culture, Maria Eugenia Hernandez (PSOE), shared the joy and pride involved in “enjoying a colossal Matanzas like Daniel Abreu as ambassador of the municipality in the world.” The first favorite son of The slaughter recalled in a very emotional intervention his memories of childhood and youth in the municipality. It was precisely in the local cultural spaces where this artist began in dance and theater. Where he began to tan and pursue a dream that, after making him travel the world, has brought him back home to receive this recognition.

“Daniel Abreu Bello has placed the name of La Matanza at the top of the artistic life of Spain”

Ignacio Rodríguez Jorge – Mayor of La Matanza de Acentejo

«I who have traveled the world, have some idea of what it means to build on slopes and around so much water. Allow me to express the pride I feel for what it means to be part of here and its people,” Abreu stressed. The mayor of La Matanza, Ignacio Rodriguez Jorge (PSOE), who was the proponent of this recognition in 2015, stressed that «Daniel Abreu Bello has placed the name of La Matanza at the top of the artistic life of Spain, and for this reason he is the first Matanzas to receive the distinction of favorite son in the municipality».

«Your biography is full of lights, of those human beings endowed with a vision of the future that gives them the ability to see beyond the horizon of their Island. In it we also see the effort of someone humble who set a goal and was lucky enough to achieve it, especially in an area that is not exempt from complexities, from difficulties, in which only a few manage to achieve the long-awaited professional appreciation and public recognition and the criticism that you have achieved, “valued the mayor.

Ignatius Rodriguez He recalled that Abreu was part of the process of designing and improving the Municipal Auditorium, with his professional contributions, in the vicinity of which he also grew up and played, and advanced during his speech that “the honors will soon be completed with the inauguration of the Daniel Abreu Cultural Space, the improved room for artistic activities located in the Study Center, in which the dancer began in the world of dance».

apart from the National Dance Award 2014 In the category of creation, awarded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, Daniel Abreu holds three Max awards, three Replica awards, the award for Best Direction at the Indifestival de Santander 2010 and several prizes from the Madrid Choreographic Contest, among many other awards.
