SAN SEBASTIAN DE LA GOMERA, Jan. 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Cabildo de La Gomera and the public company Visocan have signed this Friday the cooperation framework agreement for the execution and management of a program that will allow the development of actions for the provision of new protected housing for rent on the island.

Specifically, it is an agreement endowed with 5,236,250 euros, of which 95.2% are the corporation’s own funds, said the president, Casimiro Curbelo, who signed the agreement with the managing director, Víctor González.

As detailed by Curbelo, this agreement and the availability of these resources will allow the start of a work plan that will address two lines of action.

The first, aimed at the acquisition of finished or unfinished housing development for its disposal on a rental basis and the second aimed at the construction of new housing from the land made available by the municipalities.

“This agreement opens the door to promoting housing policy in La Gomera, because short-term solutions are put on the table to cover the demands of the most vulnerable families,” said the president during his speech, in which He highlighted the usefulness of the agreement, which is the first of its kind to be signed between a council and Visocan “to meet a social need as important as the availability of rental housing.”

Curbelo pointed to the impact that the agreement will have on the island’s economic revitalization, since the construction of new housing is a boost to employability in a context of recovery in which the creation of new jobs “is a boost for the productive fabric of La Gomera.

For his part, the managing director of Visocan, Víctor González, specified that the priority is to advance in the acquisition of finished or unfinished developments in order to reduce the time it takes to make them available to the applicants, while at the same time addressing with the town councils the reality of each municipality and determine the planned actions.

“This is one of the solutions to the problems that the housing market has in the Canary Islands, which is why the involvement of local administrations is essential to meet the objectives more quickly,” said González, before thanking the commitment of the Cabildo de La Gomera to articulate this agreement.

The agreement is integrated into the objectives set out in the Canary Islands Housing Plan 2020-2025 to promote actions that guarantee access to housing through social rental in affordable conditions, that avoid social exclusion and prevent the loss of housing due to economic reasons. In addition, the promotion of these infrastructures is encouraged as a means of economic growth, based on job creation.

The CEO of Visocan, Agustín Fernández, and the deputy mayor of the City Council of San Sebastián de La Gomera, Vanesa Vizcaíno, also participated in the signing ceremony.
