The Councilor for Tourism Development and Economic Progress of Cross port, Carolina Rodriguez (PSOE), announces that the city postpones the elaboration of the marketing tourist, requested in recent days by Ashotel and the PP, “until the situation derived from the impact of the Covid-19”. Meanwhile, “work continues hand in hand with the entire sector to shape its tourism strategy in the development of its tourism sustainability plans for which it has already obtained the support and financing of the State.” A strategy that, according to the mayor, “is based on work that has been carried out and that has a lot to do with positioning Cross port as a sustainable destination ”.
Caroline Rodriguez underlines the importance of “taking into account the reality and uncertainty that has been present in the sector for almost two years due to the pandemic, a circumstance that greatly mediates the opportunity to launch A plan of marketing for a situation that changes practically every month ”.
“With the agreement in Tourism Sector Council, it has been decided to wait for the situation to normalize to draw up this plan, which must be a useful and effective tool in the short, medium and long term. Otherwise, we would be wasting money and technical effort in preparing a plan in the face of the uncertainty that has plagued the sector for almost two years,” Rodríguez underlines.
From the area of Turistic development It is recalled that they have been working for two years to “conform these plans that have begun to be implemented and that include modernization and digitization as essential tools in their development for the better positioning of the destination.”
“The situation of uncertainty caused by the pandemic forces us to be cautious when launching a ‘marketing’ plan agreed with the sector”
“From the government we invite the People’s Party to add with realistic proposals to support, among all, the recovery that is a fact in the city, ”replies Rodríguez. According to data from Local government (PSOE-ACP), “the occupancy of the city’s accommodation establishments reached 70% this past December, showing a robust advance since last summer when the number of visitors reached the data of the municipality of Arona, which has a greater number of beds. These are data that have to serve so that we feel very proud of the work carried out”.
