The Cabildo de Tenerife invests more than 976,000 euros in channeling wastewater from Punta Larga to Güímar

The Cabildo de Tenerife and the City Council of Candelaria have formalized an agreement, through the Insular Council of Waters of Tenerife, with which the insular institution will finance with a total of 976,733 euros the actions for the iIncorporation of wastewater from the coast of Candlemas to the regional sanitation, purification and regeneration system located in the Güímar Industrial Estate.

This Urban Wastewater Treatment Plant will have the capacity to treat 7,000 cubic meters of wastewater per day.

The signing of the document took place in the Cabildo and was attended by the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, the mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, the councilor for Urban Agenda and Planning and Environmental Management, Cecilia Otazo, and the island councilor of Sustainable Development and Fight against Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez Medina.

“This agreement with the municipality of Candlemas It is one more investment that we have been making in different municipalities with the start-up of large purification centers throughout the island”, the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, has indicated in a note.

Along these lines, he has indicated that the objective is for this mandate to be “that of transformation in the treatment of wastewater from Tenerife, one of the pending subjects of the island for many years”.

He also pointed out that “investment in wastewater treatment and achieving the transformation of an island that historically has dumped most of its waters into the sea is a priority objective of the government of the Cabildo de Tenerife, into an island that respects the environment. marine environment, and for this the transformation of the wastewater management model is necessary “.

For her part, the mayor of the municipality of Candelaria, Mari Brito, recalled that they are “very satisfied” with the signing of the agreement.

The wastewater sanitation channeling works to connect with the Urban Wastewater Treatment Plant (EDARU) They are essential and the support of the Cabildo, and the Insular Water Council, has been fundamental to be able to complement the financing that we need so that all the sanitation actions that the municipality needs go ahead.

Hull Connection with Long Tip

Brito pointed out, assuring that “this is a decisive section, the area of ​​the center of Candelaria with Punta Larga, which, in addition, brings together a large number of inhabitants, and joins with the works planned in the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias and with the drive also from San Blas that will reach the regional sewage treatment plant”.

These works, he indicated, “are essential for the progress of our town and we are very happy that, after so many years of work, thanks to the commitment and closeness of the three entities, Cabildo, Consejo and Ayuntamiento, we can now write a present and future sustainable and respectful of our environment”.

The Minister for Sustainable Development and the Fight against Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez, wanted to highlight how very important investments are being made from the Insular Water Council that have to do with the treatment of urban water and industrial water.

“This tandem represents an investment that exceeds twenty million euros, but we have not stopped there, we have also wanted to be supportive of the distribution network of municipal sanitation networks,” he points out.
