Semelier assured that the one in Santa Cruz “will be a unique museum” not a copy of the one in Paris because thanks to the capital’s relationship with sculpture “it will contribute its own vision of Rodin’s work” SERGIO MÉNDEZ

The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, reports this Friday that the Rodin Museum of Santa Cruz “will house more than a hundred pieces of the french sculptor, which guarantees that his greatest works will be there and confirms the international dimension of this installation that will be located in the restored Viera y Clavijo Cultural Park”.

In addition, it reiterates in a note that “it will be a space that will finally be remodeled after years of waiting, thanks to the agreement with the Government of the Canary Islands, which provides for an investment of 10 million, plus the participation of the Cabildo de Tenerife, which has communicated its willingness to implement this investment with the technical project ahead”.

For his part, Juan José Martínez, Councilor for the Treasury, reports that “the work sessions undertaken since October last year, with the signing of the agreement, are being even more concretized in this visit by the Parisian museum delegation, so that the lines to follow in the relationship model between Paris and Santa Cruz de Tenerife are being defined”.

In this sense, he added that “much progress has been made in the formalization of the agreement that will allow the development of the Rodin project in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which also contemplates acquiring replicas, loan actions and assignments of other works by the French artist.”

According to the mayor, “the Rodin Museum in Paris is going to make a greater effort than initially planned, which will materialize in a significant volume of sculptures on loan and free transfer for a number of years that will materialize part of its collection own”.

Likewise, it indicates that “the package that is being negotiated contemplates the acquisition of original works and replicas”, and progress has been made in aspects that have to do with delivery and payment terms, in which it is agreed that in both cases they would be completed before the deadline for the rehabilitation works of the Viera and Clavijo.

On the other hand, among the agreements signed during this visit by the French delegation, the Councilor for Finance anticipates that the Rodin Museum in Santa Cruz de Tenerife “will have the corporate image, logos and genuine merchandising of Rodin Paris” and adds that “these The meetings have also served to ascertain the full willingness to facilitate the management and involvement of Paris with the Gallic sculptor’s museum in this capital”.

MEETING WITH GROUPS

At the meeting this morning at the Museum of Fine Arts in this capital with people and cultural groups were present Carlos Schwartz, director of the Sculptures on the Street initiative; in addition to the Círculo de Bellas Artes; College of Architects of Santa Cruz de Tenerife; Academia de las Artes de San Miguel Arcángel, and Fundación Cepsa and Fundación Disa, among other entities involved in the cultural and social life of this capital.

A meeting is scheduled for this afternoon with the French community in Santa Cruz, led by the Lycée Français International de Tenerife Jules Verne; the Accuiel association, in addition to the presence of the French consul in the Canary Islands, Bernard Lonis.

In this meeting, José Manuel Bermúdez will show that for the French community the presence of a Rodin Museum in Tenerife “is going to bring a little bit of their land to this archipelago, to this capital, which has always welcomed them with open arms” .

“Today is the last of the events that we celebrate, in which we can say that they have been two intense but very productive days, and I trust that they will take with them a pleasant image of our capital, of the island and of the common project that has allowed us to strengthen, even more if possible, the ties between Santa Cruz de Tenerife and France”, he points out.
