The Canary Islands add almost 10,000 active cases of Covid-19 in a single day and has 75,716 to date, compared to the 66,286 registered the previous day, Tuesday. The escalation of coronavirus infections that breaks records for positives since the beginning of the pandemAI in the islands remains above 6,000 cases, with a total of 6,769 new infections in the last 24 hours (the previous day, the maximum figure of 6,829 was reached in a single day).

As for the patients suffering from Covid on the islands, 70 are admitted to the ICU and 513 remain hospitalized. In addition, in the last hours the death of six people, four women and two men, between 62 and 87 years old, has been reported. Of this total, four people died in Tenerife, one in Gran Canaria and another in Lanzarote, all were in hospital admission and had previous pathologies.

The Accumulated Incidence (AI) at seven days in the Canary Islands stands at 1,420.21 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and at 14 days at 2,629.56 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Due to an error in the loading of data from the Grafcan portal, the AI ​​at 14 days was not updated correctly yesterday, but this error was fixed since yesterday.

Regarding the cases by islands, Tenerife added 3,431 cases yesterday, with a total of 99,422 accumulated cases and 38,281 active cases. Gran Canaria has 71,718 accumulated cases, 2,123 more than the previous day and 26,127 active cases. Lanzarote adds 536 new cases with 14,402 accumulated and 5,171 epidemiologically active; Fuerteventura has 9,602 accumulated cases, with 309 new cases and 4,098 active ones. La Palma adds 305 new positives for which it has 4,706 accumulated and 1,638 assets. La Gomera adds 37 new cases, so it has 1,166 accumulated and its assets are 255 and El Hierro adds 28 new positives, so its accumulated are 883 and it has 146 active cases. Until yesterday, a total of 2,906,781 diagnostic tests were carried out in the Islands.

Regarding the weekly communication of outbreaks, after the change in the National Strategy for Early Detection, Surveillance and Control of Covid-19 that occurred at the end of December and given the situation of high transmission throughout Spain, the Ministry of Health has agreed with the autonomous communities not to notify coronavirus outbreaks, since the change in the Strategy responds to the need to prioritize health care for the vulnerable population, the detection and monitoring of this sector of the population at greatest risk.

Vaccination support

However, this week the military personnel who are part of the six Mobile Vaccination Teams (EMV) of the Armed Forces for the islands joined the Covid vaccination support operation in the Canary Islands.

This support is included within the work that the Armed Forces are carrying out within Operation Baluarte Mission, through the Canary Islands epidemiological surveillance unit (UVE), which is integrated within the Terrestrial Component Command (MCT) led by the Headquarters of the Land Force.

Booster for over 40 without appointment

Health today begins the vaccination without prior appointment of the booster dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 to people aged between 40 and 49 years, that is, those born between 1972 and 1981 and who have completed their vaccination with two doses. Until now, this population group had access to the booster dose by making an appointment. People over 40 years of age can go to the vaccination points authorized to receive the booster dose from six months after the last inoculation if they have received two doses of Pfizer or two of Moderna, or one of AstraZeneca and one from Pfizer. In the case of having been vaccinated with Janssen or with the two doses of AstraZeneca it is from three months. The spaces enabled will have a maximum number of daily doses available for those who come without an appointment, which in Gran Canaria will be in Infecar, Expomeloneras, Juan Vega Mateos Pavilion, Dr. Negrín Hospital and Insular-Maternal-Infant University Hospital Complex. | LP / DLP.
