The mayor of La Matanza de Acentejo, Ignacio Rodríguez, does not hide that it will be difficult but not impossible to have the youth hostel completed this year, an infrastructure whose first phase has already begun and that will respond to a leisure model in rural areas of quality, will add attractiveness to the existing offer, and will value the natural environment, the landscape, the gastronomy, the culture and the architectural heritage of the municipality.

“We are in a hurry to have it ready this year but we are working with that illusion since it is a project that has been running for a few years,” he declares.

This space, which is located next to the sports residence, which already has 32 accommodation places, and the rest of the municipal sports facilities (soccer field, swimming pool and covered paddle tennis courts), has a cost that exceeds two million euros .

So far the financing has come entirely from the municipal coffers but the president assures that the Cabildo of Tenerife has committed to pay for a property, which is not only of local and regional interest but also for the Island.

The future building will have one hundred places and is conceived as a rural youth hostel for people who not only come to compete but also want to play sports in the open air and have contact with the rural environment. This will also help to expand the attractiveness of La Matanza as a tourist destination, diversify economic activity and generate new jobs.

The infrastructure is framed in an ideal environment for the purpose that it was designed, since it is close to the El Montillo park, a natural environment of 56,750 square meters that has bike lanes, climbing wall, amphitheater, areas for adventure sports, maintenance , courts, dog park, playgrounds, and recreation areas.

This natural park, in turn, complements a wide network of municipal trails that reach 22,130 linear meters, routes that have the natural area of Los Nateros as their epicenter and that allow the practice of hiking with urban and rural routes, from the coast to the mountain areas of the municipality, linking with the Network of Insular Trails.
