The United Neighborhood Neighbors Association of Granadilla (BUGA) publicly denounces that the beaches of the municipality are “in a fecal emergency situation” as a result of “laziness and lack of exercise of powers” by the City Council of Granada. The criticism comes after “the last of the repeated episodes of contamination that caused the closure of the El Médano beach last Thursday, due to infection with the E-coli bacteria.”
The spokesman for this neighborhood group, José Gregorio Gaspar Hernández, believes that the Granadilla de Abona City Council, “with its mayor, José Domingo Regalado, at the head, is seriously damaging the tourist image of the municipality, while endangering the health of bathers, neighbors and visitors ”.
Gaspar assures that the association he represents “finds it strange” that it was the Canary Islands Government Health Inspection Service that alerted of the contamination of the waters of the beaches of the municipality, “and not the municipal service that, supposedly, performs analytics twice a week (Monday and Thursday), according to the contract specifications “.
In his capacity as spokesperson for the Asociación de Vecinos Barrios Unidos de Granadilla, José Gregorio Gaspar demands from the City Council “an exercise in transparency before the people of Granada” and asks the municipal government “to make public the analytics carried out by the Biocontrol Labtec company since It was awarded the service of weekly analysis to verify the correct state of the marine waters of the beaches ”. In addition, it proposes that “they can be accessed in the future and in real time, through the transparency portal of the municipal Corporation.”
Granadilla de Abona awarded the aforementioned service to the current concession company with a budget of 36,192 euros, says the BUGA neighborhood group.
