Viera and Clavijo Park

A delegation from the Rodin Museum in Paris, led by the director of the center, Amelie Semelier, will visit Santa Cruz de Tenerife this Thursday and Friday to see the space that will house this museum project in the city.

Thus, they will visit the Viera and Clavijo park, as well as its remodeling project, which is being drawn up by the architect Fernando Menis, among other activities that will be carried out during the 48 hours that the visit will last.

The French delegation, he explained to the mayor of the city, “is obviously very interested in knowing first-hand where the future Rodin Museum in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will be located, the second most important in Europe, after the Parisian one.”

The first mayor has reported that, in addition to the tour of some of the spaces of this emblematic building of the city, for which the rehabilitation project is expected to be completed this year, the French representatives will know the sculptural heritage of the city, including a good part of it in the ‘Exhibition of Sculptures in the Street’, which next year will celebrate its first half century of existence.

The visit will serve to fulfill the established roadmap, since last October 15 the agreement was signed in Paris by which the Viera y Clavijo park will host, once rehabilitated, the museum that will become the third on the planet dedicated exclusively to the author, together with that of Paris and Philadelphia (USA).

The space chosen to house this important space is the Viera y Clavijo Cultural Park, whose rehabilitation project is currently being drawn up by the architect Fernando Martín Menis, also present at the meeting held in Paris, and who has the support for its development budget of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo de Tenerife.

This rehabilitation project will be adapted to the needs of use arising from the agreement, and will also include a space for temporary exhibitions that give visibility to local artists, in addition to giving rise to promoting a future International Center for Modern and Contemporary Sculpture, with The objective of introducing a space in which not only to contemplate pieces of art, but also to contribute to their interpretation and dissemination, and which will also revolve around the exhibition of sculpture in the street.
