The PP affirms that the work on the Jama road does not solve its deficits

The work for the rehabilitation of the highway that connects Jama (San Miguel de Abona) and Buzanada (Vilaflor) “does not solve the problem” of the TF-655 “definitively”. The island councilor, Valentín González (PP), explains that, “despite the fact that an integral action was announced from Carreteras, the truth is that in some sections the resurfacing has only been carried out (without proceeding to mill the pavement) and, in others , not even that”. The Popular Party at Council repeatedly claimed “A comprehensive action on this road” because “The deterioration in which it was found seriously affected the safety of users.”

For González Évora, the head of Roads in the Cabildo, Enrique Arriaga, “He was not faithful to the truth when he announced with great fanfare a comprehensive performance”. In fact, he publicly assured that he would proceed to “prior milling of the road, the removal of the previous asphalt and the replacement of the firm on the entire road.” The sanmiguelero adviser of the PP is clear that this announcement “does not correspond to the reality of the work that was executed, as can be seen in the images that the Cabildo made public, in which it is clearly seen how the machines proceed the resurfacing of some sections, without removing the pre-existing pavement (milling), which is the way to guarantee that the serious deterioration suffered by this road is not reproduced and that has significantly affected traffic safety in the zone”.

Taking into account that the works had a budget of more than 1.5 million euros, “we would have expected diligent action” and predicts an accelerated deterioration due to the fact that it registers a high level of heavy traffic and the fact that ” It is one of the main accesses to the Teide National Park, ”says Valentín González.

Who was also mayor of San Miguel de Abona is concerned about the result of this work. “In the Popular Party we believe that it is unfortunate that the Cabildo offers headlines that do not attend to the reality of the projects, since this constitutes a fraud against citizens, who are those truly affected by the actions of public administrations.”

An error of the PP

The insular counselor for Roads, Enrique Arriaga, points out that the rehabilitation work of the TF-565 between Jama and La Escalona is 50% complete. “After 30 years without intervening, the entire road surface is being laid,” he recalls. “Currently, we are in the phase of completing the execution of the intermediate layer to later finish with the tread layer,” explains the vice president of the Cabildo. It reports that “in parallel work is being done on improving protection barriers and on the construction of ditches.” Likewise, it defends that “the works are going at a good pace” and that the initial planning is fulfilled.

Arriaga values that, “on the part of the Popular Party, it is a mistake to try to find a headline without having knowledge of what is being done and without waiting for the performance to be finished.” The island councilor responsible for Roads perceives “contempt for the work carried out by the engineers in charge of the work, who are the ones who decide what actions should be carried out at each point of the road, depending on the requirements and technical possibilities.”
