Intensive Healthcare Activity Recorded in Tenerife in 2024

Tenerife Hospitals Conducted 46,000 Surgeries and Nearly 1.5 Million Consultations in 2024

Primary Care Statistics

In 2024, healthcare centres in Tenerife experienced significant activity. According to data released on Thursday by the Government of the Canary Islands, Family Medicine professionals attended to 2,889,622 consultations, while Paediatrics conducted 459,790 consultations, and nursing staff accounted for 1,577,148. Additionally, there were 136,757 dental consultations, 189,999 midwifery consultations, and 73,535 social work interactions. In psychology, 7,246 patients were attended to across 8,341 appointments, and physiotherapy services recorded 9,828 patients and 23,373 appointments.

Emergency Services

Regarding primary care emergencies, there were 650,292 consultations, of which 96,291 were paediatric. Nursing staff managed 526,971 emergencies, including 75,744 for children under 14 years old. The hospital complexes within the Canary Health Service in Tenerife also reflected high demand, with 49,410 patients admitted in 2024. Surgical procedures numbered 46,169, and 1,482,996 hospital consultations were conducted. Hospital emergencies totalled 268,596 throughout the year across the two main hospitals on the island.

Tenerife Health Council

These figures were presented during the latest meeting of the Tenerife Health Council, the principal body for participation among those linked to the healthcare sector, where the scale of healthcare activity on the island over the past year was highlighted.
