This weekend will feature a variety of events for all audiences, including the Siroco Festival, the Institutional Wrestling of Christ, and the procession and fireworks of the Octava.
The city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna will officially conclude the programme of events for the 2025 Christ Festival in the coming days. Throughout this weekend, residents of La Laguna and the rest of the island will enjoy a plethora of cultural, religious, and sporting activities, catering to all ages and featuring highly anticipated events that have become local staples.
Dailos González, the councilor for festivities, expressed his gratitude for “the tremendous support and warm reception the official agenda of these celebrations has received, which began on 4th September and has captivated us with outstanding live performances, family-friendly gatherings, and processions steeped in faith and devotion through the historic streets.”
Highlights of the Weekend
On Friday, 19th September, two significant musical events will take place. At 20:00, Cristo Rock 2025 will be held at the Aguere Cultural Space, featuring King Sapo, Saturna, and the Nameless Band. An hour later, the dance night ‘To the Beat of Christ’ will commence, featuring Daniel Calero, Estrellas de Buenavista, and the Sabrosa Orchestra.
Saturday’s programme will kick off early with two major sporting events: the 25th Trofeo Ciudad de La Laguna in BMX at 09:30 in La Vega Park, and the 34th Ciudad de La Laguna Table Tennis Tournament at 10:00, held at the Guamasa Pavilion.
On the same day, the final Saturday of the Children’s Fair will begin at 10:00, offering families bouncy castles, workshops, photo booths, animated characters, Zumba sessions for the little ones, and the Magic Borrás show on the main stage of Christ.
Cultural and Entertaining Events
At 11:30, another key event of the weekend will occur at the IES Cabrera Pinto Museum. The Canary Islands Migratory Day is a commemorative and cultural initiative led by the General Directorate of Emigration of the Canary Islands Government, aimed at highlighting migration experiences and promoting coexistence based on mutual respect and social integration.
The rest of the agenda will include the 18th University Tuna Parade at 12:30, the Boxing Evening of Christ Celebrations at 20:00 at the Esteban Afonso municipal pavilion, and the second Siroco Festival at 21:00 featuring a headline performance by Love of Lesbian in the Christ Square.
Closing Events
Sunday will mark the closing day of this year’s Christ Festival, featuring events such as the Institutional Wrestling (11:00), the 18th Concert of the Symphony Band of the University of La Laguna at 12:00 in La Cathedral Square, and the family show ‘The Song of the Jungle’ led by the Miguel de Jaubert Youth Philharmonic Orchestra at 17:00.
The grand finale will come with the traditional Eucharistic celebration and procession of the Octava of Christ, starting at 20:00, during which the crucified image will traverse the city centre before returning to its Sanctuary for the customary closing fireworks display of the festival.
