An International Tournament Launches in La Gomera
A New Addition to La Gomera’s Sports Offering
In collaboration with the Cabildo of La Gomera and the San Sebastián de La Gomera City Council, an international tournament is set to take place, aiming to integrate into the island’s diverse sporting events. Just last Saturday, the island hosted a well-attended sprint triathlon.
This tournament will also mark the first opportunity for fans to see four new players in action for CV Guaguas, the Gran Canaria team pursuing continued success. The debutants include Hélder Spencer (number 4), Osmany Juantorena (5), Augusto Colito (11), and Dobromir Dimitrov (77).
Champions in Action
The yellow team’s coaching staff, comprising Sergio Miguel Camarero and Facundo Leal, along with fitness coach Rubén Carreño and physiotherapist Rafael Sosa, will field a squad of ten players who won various championships in the 2024-2025 season, including the Super Cup, Coppa del Rey, and Superliga. The players are: Nico Bruno (1), Ezequiel Figueroa (2), Walla Souza (6), Io De Amo (7), Unai Larrañaga (8), Jorge Almansa (10), Jean Pascal Diedhiou (12), Tomas Rousseaux (14), Elio Montesdeoca (15), and Martín Ramos (18).
Facing Off Against Cisneros Alter Tenerife
Cisneros Alter Tenerife will be the opponent, featuring several new signings ahead of the season. Under the experienced guidance of coach Miguel Rivera—previously at CV Haris women’s team—they embark on a new chapter with a men’s team.
Rivera has closely monitored the Cisneros club’s progress, enhancing a squad that retains several players from the previous season, who reached the Copa del Rey and playoffs under Matías Guidolín. Alongside returning players Sergio Noda, Adrián Oliva, Mateusz Frac, Fran Duque, and Nacho Roberts, the squad has welcomed talents such as Hugo López, formerly of CV Guaguas, and Fabián Flores, who played with José Osado at Grupo Herce Soria.
The Dutchman Thomas Sleurink and Cuban Víctor Andreu will join youngsters Izzuna Okafor, Samuel Barrasa, Marcos Carreño, Eduardo Rodríguez, and Guillem Pont. Cisneros Alter Tenerife played last weekend against Leganés, falling in the ‘tie break’ but leaving a positive impression according to reports.

New signings include Jonás Ponzio, Mario Dovale, Isaac Valiño, Luis Gonzalo Díaz, Fernando Fernández, Thiago Vanole, and Jonathan Portelance, contributing to a squad featuring Moisés Cezar, Alejandro Mollo, Antonio León, Nicomar Rodríguez, Pedro Erdocia, and Mauro Fuentes.
Historic VK Jihostroj Joins the Tournament
The historic VK Jihostroj club from Ceske Budejovice, with a rich sporting history since the 1940s, joins the tournament. Last season, they achieved third place in the Superlega and the Cup, also reaching the quarter-finals of the CEV Challenge Cup.
This year, the team includes four international players: Brazilian Joao Francks, Finnish Samuli Kaislasalo, Canadian Sam Taylor-Parks, and Argentinian Leandro Omar Calvo, who played last season for Conectabalear Manacor. Domestic players such as Matej Emmer, Lubos Bartunek, Michael Kovaric, Aleksandar Okolic, Josef Lestina, and Oliver Sedlacek will bolster the squad during pre-season, which includes six matches in the Canary Islands.
