Granadilla de Abona to Introduce Urban Bus Services
Granadilla de Abona will soon have a public urban bus service. The local council is currently working on its implementation, studying the development of three routes. Specifically, one will connect the areas of Cruz de Tea, Charco del Pino, Los Llanos, El Salto, El Draguito, and the town centre; a second will link Vicácaro, La Higuera, the centre, Los Blanquitos, El Desierto, Chimiche, Las Rosas, and Las Vegas, while a third will traverse San Isidro, La Vaguada, Castro, Atogo, Casablanca, Chuchurumbache, with a preferred stop located at the San Isidro roundabout.
These routes will serve to structure the municipality, improve internal mobility, and connect residents from more dispersed areas to the main bus stops located in the urban centre of Granadilla de Abona and the lower zone of San Isidro. The focus is primarily on ensuring that this service meets the demands of Granadilla’s citizens based on their work schedules.
Before the Summer
The municipal government, in collaboration with public transport company Titsa, anticipates that the service will begin trial operations in the second quarter of next year. The commitment is to ensure that by 2026 the municipality will have a system that is efficient, accessible, and tailored to the actual needs of its citizens, marking a significant milestone in improving local mobility.
The project, which began in 2022 when the administration took initial steps to acquire a share of Titsa and involve the council, includes the creation of several strategic routes designed to serve areas with lower population density and greater transportation challenges.
The current estimated cost of the service is around €400,000, which will be financed by the Granadilla de Abona council. This amount will facilitate the creation of new routes, expected to carry 90,000 passengers annually based on estimates from the council.
The Mayor, José Domingo Regalado, asserts that “public transport must reach all corners of the municipality and with this project we are addressing a long-standing demand“. He maintains that the goal is to “guarantee equal opportunities in terms of mobility for all residents, regardless of where they live”.
Tailored to Needs
Regalado emphasises the commitment of the government team, stating that “connecting the more scattered areas with the more populated towns means improving the quality of life for many individuals who currently lack regular transport services”. The Mayor is confident that by 2026, Granadilla de Abona will have a modern urban transport service tailored to the needs of its citizens.
The urban transport service is one of the measures outlined in Granadilla de Abona’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS).
