Cabildo Revives University Shuttle Buses to Promote Sustainable Mobility

Rosa Dávila highlights that between January and June 2025, the four shuttle lines transported around 25,000 passengers, establishing themselves as an effective and sustainable alternative for students and teaching staff travelling to the university campus.

Tenerife’s Cabildo, via Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife (Titsa), has reactivated the university shuttle buses as of today (Tuesday), connecting La Orotava and Costa Adeje with the University of La Laguna (ULL).

The President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, emphasised that “the reactivation of the university shuttles will provide thousands of students at the University of La Laguna with faster, more comfortable, and sustainable connections from various points on the island, reducing private vehicle usage and helping to alleviate traffic congestion.” She also added that, with these measures, the Cabildo reaffirms its commitment to equality of opportunity for students, carbon footprint reduction, and improved quality of life for the entire university community. “This reactivation is not an isolated action but rather part of a joint strategy between the Cabildo and the University of La Laguna: we are implementing staggered schedules, shuttles, and promoting car-sharing to reduce congestion and enhance the quality of life for our university community.”

Moreover, Rosa Dávila highlighted the success achieved since the shuttles commenced operations. “Between January and June 2025, the four shuttle lines transported approximately 25,000 passengers, consolidating their effectiveness and sustainability for transporting students and teaching staff to the university campus,” stated the president.

The Mobility Councillor, Eulalia García, stressed that the reactivation of the university shuttles complements the staggered teaching schedules at the University of La Laguna, a coordinated effort with the Cabildo aimed at improving mobility and reducing crowding during peak demand periods. This initiative facilitates a more balanced distribution of trips and contributes to the efficiency of public transport.
