PSOE Calls for an Extraordinary Session at Tenerife Cabildo Regarding the Phylloxera Infestation

The Socialist group in the Tenerife Cabildo has submitted a request for the president of the corporation, Rosa Dávila (Canarian Coalition), to appear at an extraordinary plenary session and report on the actions taken and those planned following the official declaration of the phylloxera plague in the Canary Islands.

The procedure stipulates that, once the request has been registered, the president has 15 working days to convene the plenary session, which sets the deadline for Friday, 12th September, as indicated by the PSOE on Monday.

Failure to do so within this timeframe will result in the session being automatically scheduled for Friday, 26th September, at 12:00 hours.

The PSOE of Tenerife has already publicly expressed its concern regarding the detection of the first phylloxera outbreak on the island in a statement released on 12th August, demanding swift action with adequate resources and transparency to safeguard the island’s viticulture.

The Socialists emphasise that the emergence of phylloxera presents “a significant challenge” to the wine sector, which is crucial to the economy, identity, and landscape of the island. They deem it essential for the Cabildo to clearly present both the measures already implemented and the planned prevention and control protocols.
