The Cabildo Insular de Tenerife and the Federation of Transport Entrepreneurs of the Canary Islands (FET) today signed a historic agreement aimed at improving the operation of discretionary passenger transport buses in the Anaga and Teno Rural Parks, which will take effect on 15 May. The signing was led by Cabildo President Rosa Dávila and FET President José Agustín Espino Flores, during the framework of the VI Mobility Meeting, attended by representatives from the business, economic, and social sectors of the island.
“Today is a very significant day for Tenerife,” stated Rosa Dávila during the signing, which was also attended by the Vice President of the Cabildo and Tourism Councillor Lope Afonso; the Mobility Councillor Eulalia García; the Roads Councillor Dámaso Arteaga; the Deputy Councillor for Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands Francis González; and FET President José Agustín Espino.

A Decisive Step Towards Balancing Tourist Interest and Local Use
The Vice President of the Cabildo of Tenerife and Tourism Councillor Lope Afonso highlighted the importance of the agreement and commended the meeting held with the social and economic stakeholders of the island. “Our protected natural spaces are fundamental to tourism success. However, over time, this success has led to congestion in mobility. Thus, this agreement with the transport sector is a decisive step towards a strategy aimed at balancing continuous yet respectful tourist activity with the needs of the local population residing in these natural spaces.”
