A new video shared by the account Tenerife Quejas Vecinales has once again highlighted issues regarding road safety on the southern motorway (TF-1). The footage, recorded on Tuesday, 19th August, captures two traffic violations occurring at different points along the road with only a few kilometres apart.
Incidents Recorded
In the first instance, a young individual is seen riding an electric scooter without a helmet along the hard shoulder of the motorway near Arona. This behaviour is not only illegal but also poses an extreme risk both to himself and to other vehicles in the vicinity.
The second violation depicted in the video involves a motorcycle unlawfully overtaking on the hard shoulder near Guaza, heading towards Adeje. This manoeuvre is prohibited under traffic regulations and increases danger in a heavily trafficked area.
Risk to Safety
The use of electric scooters on motorways and major roads is prohibited in Spain, as is the practice of using the hard shoulder as an overtaking lane for motor vehicles. Both actions are classified as serious violations by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) and can result in significant financial penalties, alongside the potential loss of points on a driving licence in the case of motorcycles.
The video has sparked considerable criticism on social media, with users highlighting the recklessness and lack of responsibility exhibited by those involved in such behaviours. Community associations emphasise the necessity to strengthen monitoring and traffic education to prevent actions that jeopardise the safety of all road users.
