The Guardia Civil has seized a stash of 21 kilos of cocaine divided into two packages found off the coast of Los Silos (Tenerife). Officers from the Main Post of Buenavista del Norte, who were conducting a citizen security patrol along the Sibora Coast, detected what appeared to be a mooring buoy that raised their suspicions, as it could be an indicator of a smuggler’s stash.
The officers proceeded to inspect the entire coastline, thus confirming their suspicions after finding a package floating near the Charco de los Cristales, sources from the armed institute report.
The package, struck by rocks, was located in a difficult-to-access area, and its wrapping, already weakened, tore during the officers’ attempts to bring it out of the water. Nonetheless, they were able to recover it and extract it from the sea.
Once on land, they inspected the package, which weighed approximately 20 kilos. Inside, there were 20 packets containing a whitish substance that turned out to be cocaine.
Following the discovery of the first package, the officers maintained extensive surveillance of the area in the subsequent days and were able to locate and seize a second packet of the same drug, which weighed 1.116 kilos.
The proceedings conducted, along with the seized drugs, have been placed at the disposal of the competent investigating court.
