SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands has awarded the Cabildo de La Gomera a grant of two million euros to finance the rehabilitation project of what is known as Hacienda de Ayala, in Chipude, and its conversion into a tourist museum.

This grant will be destined, according to the project, to the complete rehabilitation of the buildings that are part of the Hacienda de Ayala, dating from the seventeenth century, to return them to their original state with the repair and replacement of deteriorated structural elements, as well such as the inclusion of the necessary systems and services that are not enabled at the moment, as reported by the regional Executive in a press release.

The reform of the outdoor area is also planned, which will consist of the fitting out of a public garden space and another to maintain the native flora, the terraces and the fundamental elements that guarantee the visual quality of the landscape.

In this regard, the Canarian Minister of Tourism, Yaiza Castilla, has indicated that the support of her department for this action is based on the “need to promote on the island of La Gomera unique actions around historical heritage, such as the property to be restored, and that they can add to the image of the destination by making it available not only to the local population, but also to tourists. “

Castilla explained that visitors to La Gomera are mainly characterized by “their interest in knowing the nature and heritage of the island”, hence they understand that they should bet on actions in infrastructures that “allow the competitiveness of the Gomera tourist destination to be maintained adapted to the singularities that it promotes as in the sustainability and authenticity of its sociocultural and historical offer “.

In this regard, the president of the Cabildo de La Gomera, Casimiro Curbelo, explained that this infrastructure of insular ownership “is among the priorities” of rehabilitation of the island Corporation, hence the project has been promoted to “recover one of the architectural values of the island, at the same time that the midlands area is provided with an enclosure that serves as a stopping point for residents and tourists. “

Curbelo has indicated that this will be a “very useful space, since multipurpose areas will be incorporated into the museum part that will enrich the possibilities of using the enclosure”, underlining the need to follow the roadmap set to “improve public services and strengthen the “tourist excellence of the destination.”

The Casa de Los Ayala is one of the “few” estates whose structure lasts on the island, “hence the significance it has for the Gomeran heritage”, since together with the Church of La Candelaria they are the two architectural elements “with the greatest value of the medianías and their rehabilitation allows to safeguard “this place.

The subsidy of two million euros, from the funds of the General Directorate of Tourist Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands, has been made up of two annual payments (2021 and 2022) and will allow to cover the total cost of the project, which includes from the drafting of the same until the direction of the work and reform. The work must finish before December 31, 2022.
