The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has updated the warnings for high temperatures across various islands in the Canary Islands due to the arrival of a new heatwave, which on Wednesday, 6 August, will particularly affect areas of midlands and highlands.
In Gran Canaria, the heat will be more intense. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 37°C in the highlands and in the east, south, and west of the island, where a significant risk (amber) has been declared. The warning will be in effect between 11:00 and 18:59 hours.
In the north of the round island, the forecast maximum temperature is 34°C. Although the risk is lower, Aemet has issued a yellow warning, highlighting the impact on midland areas.
34°C in the metropolitan area of Tenerife
Tenerife will also be affected. In its metropolitan area and on the eastern, southern, and western slopes, maximums of 34°C are expected. The midlands, especially in the south and west, will be the most exposed to the heat.
La Palma will have active warnings in the highlands and in the west, with expected temperatures of up to 34°C. Midland areas facing south will be more affected, as will those in La Gomera and El Hierro.
Aemet extends the warnings to La Gomera and El Hierro, where 34°C is also expected in midland areas, mainly on the south-facing slopes. These regions maintain a yellow risk due to elevated temperatures.
06/08 07:48 Active warnings today and tomorrow in the Canary Islands for maximum temperatures. Highest warning level: amber.
