50 girls, boys and young people from The Realejos, with ages between 8 and 17 years, have participated this Christmas in the technological workshops of the Innovation Labs (INlab), driven by Tenerife Council, through the Tenerife Science and Technology Park (PCTT) and the Scientia Foundation, with the collaboration of Los Realejos Town Hall. The initiative was offered in a remote format and included the loan of the material, which was formalized on December 27.

The objective of this project is to offer opportunities for training in new project-based active learning processes that incorporate science and technology. The first deputy mayor of Los Realejos, Adolfo González (PP), and the Councilor for New Technologies, Laura Lima (PP), showed their support for the initiative with their presence, together with PCTT personnel, during the delivery of material to the families of registered minors.

During the innovation labs, digital platforms and the educational set of LEGO Spike Prime to develop competencies in computational thinking, innovation and technology. Its objective is “to promote the creation of technological capacities, the promotion of an entrepreneurial attitude, collaborative learning and teamwork, trying to help identify, experiment and develop the skills that facilitate the choice of the professional career of young people” .

With the help of Lego material, issues such as computational thinking, technology or innovation are worked on

These innovation laboratories are immersed in the program of activities of INfuture STEAM, which arises with the objective of creating a competency-based learning program aimed especially at the child and youth population of Tenerife, complementary to formal education and in close cooperation with the island’s educational institutions.

The actions of this program allow the participating students to «discover and experiment the world of new technologies, enhancing their ingenuity and creativity through dynamic workshops that seek to transmit the passion for science, technology, engineering, and many other matters raised in a transversal way ».

Its promoters emphasize that «with an innovative pedagogical model we seek to motivate by the content and not only by the technology itself, in an environment in which the participants ask, seek, explore, investigate and be builders of your knowledge, giving the opportunity to express themselves and contribute their ideas so that, ultimately, they are the protagonists of their own learning.
