Officials from the Customs Surveillance Operational Unit of the Tax Agency in Tenerife, in a joint operation with agents from the Civil Guard’s Fiscal and Borders section at the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, have arrested a woman as a suspected author of a drug trafficking offence, within the framework of the fiscal inspection points carried out at the dock upon the arrival of shipping vessels.
The accused was identified while driving a large vehicle that raised the agents’ suspicions due to the evident overloading of the vehicle and her nervous behaviour during the interview conducted by the officers, as reported by the state department in a press release.
Additionally, a strong smell of cannabis was emanating from the vehicle’s interior, which led the agents to conduct a thorough inspection, discovering a total of 300 kilos of narcotic substances hidden in the boot and beneath the seats. The subsequent test confirmed that the substance was hashish.
The arrested individual, along with the seized substance and the proceedings conducted, was put at the disposal of the Investigating Court No. 5 of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where the judicial authority ordered provisional detention for the accused.
