The Cabildo de Tenerife has approved a modification of the Insular Cooperation Plan 2022–2026 to incorporate new actions in the municipality of Garachico, following a technical and budgetary proposal presented by the Ayuntamiento. This decision translates into a total investment of 1,742,690 euros, of which the insular institution will cover 90% of the cost.
One of the main actions will be the second phase of the reform of the sewage system in La Caleta de Interián, with a budget of 1,394,152 euros. The Cabildo will fund 1,254,736 euros, which represents the majority of the project cost.
According to the Vice President of the Cabildo and Councillor for Tourism, Lope Afonso, this intervention will allow for the modernisation of the separate networks for rainwater and wastewater, solving a historical problem of contaminating discharges that affects both the quality of the environment and the public health of this area, which is residential and tourist.
Resurfacing of various streets in the municipality
The second action planned is the resurfacing of various public roads in Garachico, with a total investment of 348,538 euros, of which 313,684 euros will be financed by the insular corporation.
These works aim to improve road safety and the condition of urban infrastructures, benefiting the mobility of both residents and visitors, and contributing to the development of the municipality.
A flexible plan for the benefit of municipalities
The insular Councillor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing, Sonia Hernández, emphasised that this modification of the insular plan demonstrates the Cabildo’s adaptability to the real needs of the municipalities. In her words, it is a measure that improves sanitary and safety conditions in a strategic area such as La Caleta de Interián.
Hernández added that this case exemplifies how insular cooperation plans can function as flexible and effective tools to meet the demands of municipalities, always prioritising the well-being of the citizens.
