Magic and illusion are not just for the little ones. The mayors of the North of Tenerife have also written to Their Majesties to ask them to fulfill their wishes for the coming year. By an absolute majority and leaving aside the political acronyms, everyone wants health for their neighbors and for the pandemic to end once and for all because that, in addition to recovering the longed-for normality, will allow the resumption of social, sports and cultural activities.

However, they have also sent specific requests to their municipalities: that the works and pending projects be completed, that there be no unemployment and that the public coffers remain stable. And although they are aware that all this does not depend only on Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar, they recognize that “a little help is welcome”.
All have expressed their wishes, some in a more concise way, such as Francisco Linares, from La Orotava, who has asked them “that all people recover their jobs and the state of well-being that existed before the pandemic and that all initiatives that they remain unsolved ”.

His counterpart in Los Realejos, Manuel Domínguez, has also done it in a very specific way: In addition to health for the neighbors, he wants the approval of the General Planning Plan “since it means investment and employment as well as legal security for hundreds of homes.”

There were more ambitious requests, such as that of the president of Santa Úrsula. Juan Acosta wants job opportunities for all residents in 2022 and specifically commissioned them to do everything possible to resolve the situation of urbanizations such as La Quinta, that the municipal swimming pool can be reopened and that fiber optics reach all homes.

“I also ask you to see how projects such as the Cuesta de la Villa roundabout, the El Calvario sports complex or the remodeling of TF-213 begin to become reality,” he wrote. The list is extensive and includes the recovery of the commercial and catering sectors and that the situation of vulnerable people can be improved.

As mayor of La Guancha, Antonio Hernández, he asked the Kings of the East that the town not have the water problems that it suffered in 2021 and previous years and that the pending projects of works “which are not few” advance and go ahead, among Those cited by the municipal auditorium, the Plaza de Las Cucharas, the asphalting of streets and the improvement of the playgrounds since the investment of 2021 was pending and has to be executed in this year.

As far as water is concerned, the four councilors of the Baja Island agreed on a desire that affects the region: the solution to the problem and treatment of wastewater.

“In addition to other purposes for the municipality that involves labor, business and economic development, I ask the acceptance by Costas Madrid of the allegations to the new administrative concession of the municipal swimming pools of Los Silos,” said the mayor in her letter. , Macarena Fuentes.

Antonio González Fortes also hopes that in 2022 the Magicians of the East bring the beginning of the work in the municipal cinema, the completion of the Masca pier and the project for Punta Teno, “so that the visitors to the ravine can do so without leaving Buenavista del Norte ”. And finally, count on the projects for the first two natural treatment plants and begin their bidding.

José Heriberto González wants economic recovery and unemployment to be reduced in Garachico, which ended 2021 with one of the best gifts of recent decades: being the only municipality in Tenerife that officially entered the Network of the Most Beautiful Towns from Spain.

González divided his wishes: for the region, that the problems with sewage discharges and purification be solved once and for all and that the works of the connecting roads with the Insular Ring begin. For the Villa and Port, continue with the tourist progression, start work on the old packaging of bananas, improve the security of the Avenue in cases of maritime storms and bathing places, such as La Caleta beach or El Guincho beach and from the midlands and the upper area.

The mayor of El Tanque, Esther Morales, agrees with her councilor from Garachica in terms of employability. However, your letter includes the wish that red tape be reduced and simplified to facilitate investment and the “optimal” provision of public services. In addition, he adds, “we request the immediate receipt of European funds to face the economic recovery and an orderly energy transition that favors respect for our environment and the immediate use of alternative energies.”

Ezequiel Domínguez wants this year “fortune continues to smile on San Juan de la Rambla, because for the first time in decades we can boast of having in place or having in the near future, large investments that will mean an exponential development in neighborhood welfare , cultural development and economic and tourist attraction ”.
For a town accustomed to the political upheavals of recent terms, the president asked for serenity “so that calm, both political and social, continues to be the trend of the municipality as it has happened in 2021.”

Juan Antonio García Abreu, mayor of La Victoria de Acentejo, bet that the Kings finish the residence for the elderly and the nursery school, the future municipal auditorium can start and the long-awaited roundabout on the General Highway can be put into operation.

The councilor of the neighboring municipality of La Matanza, Ignacio Rodríguez, has asked Their Majesties to help finish the expansion of the House of the Elders, to resume the activity of the municipal swimming pool that has just been suspended due to rehabilitation works given that it had leakage problems, that the improvement and expansion of the El Montillo park and the youth hostel continue.

Queues on the TF-5

His last wish, which in his opinion “is on the right track”, is that the variant of the TF-5 be awarded and started to put an end to the queues on the Autopista del Norte “and end a problem that they have suffered for decades. the neighbors of this part of the Island.

The mayor of Sauzalero, Mariano Pérez, asked not to raise unemployment in the municipality that is currently stable. He assures that in 2022 it will be key for El Sauzal with works that residents have been waiting for many years.

“Some have started and I hope they will culminate this year, such as the Plaza del Calvario, the medical office in the town and the first phase of the municipal cemetery, Calle Real Orotava, the improvement of Los Corraletes, the improvement of schools and smart signage. in all schools ”.

The head of Puerto de la Cruz, Marco González, hopes that the city “continues to be full of optimism since it has been an example of balance between health security and economic recovery.”

He cites as an example the opening of new businesses and the renovation of the hotel sector, “which have generated new job opportunities that I hope will multiply in 2022 because they have a direct impact on improving people’s well-being.”

In the case of Icod de los Vinos, its mayor, Francis González, has requested “great courage from the political leaders to rebuild La Palma” and for the City of Drago, that the Government of the Canary Islands and the General Directorate of Coasts execute the project and put sand on the beach of San Marcos, and that the first administration gives the green light to the last procedure to definitively approve the General Management Plan.

Finally, José Daniel Díaz wished that the great project of the Paseo Litoral for the coast of Tacoronte go ahead, which together with the clean-up of Mesa del Mar and the El Pris Refuge will unite both neighborhoods and energize the coast “as a boost to tourism that is already, nowadays, generating employment and activity in the area ”.

Unlike the little ones, the mayors will have to wait longer to see if Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar fulfill their wishes, although there are those who already take it for granted, such as Juan Antonio García Abreu, who in the postscript of his letter wrote:

“Dear Three Wise Men: we have behaved so well that we deserve that all the projects for La Victoria become a reality in 2022.”
