The island government excludes Construction of the Alcalá variant of the Cabildo Budget for 2022. The Alcalá variant is a road that was projected after the Fonsalía branch, a road that was to connect the South highway (Insular Ring) with the Port of Fonsalía, in the vicinity of Alcalá. A road that would reduce the traffic of the crossing of this town and would allow a much more fluid circulation towards the tourist area of Santiago del Teide, in the southwest of the Island.
Fernandez attributes the situation to “the most absolute inaction” of the island government in this matter, in which “it shows its null planning, which causes serious damage to the inhabitants of this area of the island in terms of mobility, since the collapse of traffic in Alcalá is a constant.” Manuel Fernández recalls that 15 million euros were invested in the construction of the Fonsalía branch and assures that this road “should have continuity with the Alcalá bypass.” The decision of the island government “is more regrettable, if possible”, if we take into account that “the Council itself budgeted in previous years an initial loan to run this important infrastructure, but ended up eliminating it from the institution’s budgets.”
The president of the Insular Corporation, Pedro Martín, insistently demanded the construction of this new highway during his period as mayor of Guía de Isora, due to its layout, its conditions and its high traffic record.
