The PP claims it was unaware of the “complaints” from the councillor of Guía de Isora who alleges workplace harassment and urges her to reconsider her position.

The PP has assured this weekend that it was unaware of the “complaints” from the councillor of Guía de Isora, Acerina González Prieto, who reported a few days ago that she was experiencing workplace harassment. The councillor has felt constantly pressured and disregarded for having her own views and for trying to manage her responsibilities as she believed they should be handled, without the support she expected from her colleagues and also the mayor, according to sources consulted by this newspaper.

In a statement sent out on Saturday night, the PP of Tenerife expressed that it “does not condone, has not condoned, nor will it condone any act of workplace harassment, or any disrespect or lack of consideration. With equal firmness, it condemns any possible false accusation made with the intent to harm the reputation of individuals, institutions, or political parties.”

Furthermore, it points out that “anyone who feels affected by such behaviours should, first and foremost, formally report them at their workplace and also to the party’s governing bodies. Regarding the statements from councillor Acerina González, the PP of Tenerife has no record of these complaints being raised previously either in the Guía de Isora Town Hall or before the relevant bodies in the Popular Party.”

“The Tenerife PP understands that any leader of a governing team has among their obligations to establish the necessary restructurings of responsibilities to improve the results of management and attention to citizens,” it emphasises.

According to the party, the changes in responsibilities in the Social Services area that affected Acerina González were made based on objective criteria aimed at improving waiting lists and citizen services.

Moreover, it sends a message to Acerina González, stating that upon learning of her decision to remain an unaligned councillor, the PP of Tenerife requests “that she reflect and appeals to her personal and political responsibility because the citizens of Guía de Isora who voted for the Popular Party have the right to maintain their representation in the Town Hall.”

“Personal interests and ambitions must never take precedence over the will of the people,” insists the PP in the statement.

“The priority of the PP of Tenerife in this matter is to ensure the stability of the Municipal Government of Guía de Isora for the sake of its residents, who deserve a Town Hall that continues to work for the progress and well-being of the locality and all its inhabitants,” it concludes.
