This is the venue discovered by critic Cocituber.

Alfonso Ortega, better known as Cocituber, is one of the most important food critics in Spain. He travels around the country searching for the best restaurants to dine in. Now, in this municipality of Tenerife, he has discovered a guachinche with chefs who have an extraordinary story.

From Senegal to being a chef in Tenerife

The guachinche Como En Casa, located in La Laguna, has a master risotto chef named Siri, a Senegalese who arrived by boat five years ago and now cooks rice dishes that have amazed the critic. Originally from Senegal, Siri reached Spain by sea, and after regularising his status, earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues thanks to his talent in the kitchen.

Cocituber was impressed by Siri’s story of overcoming challenges and was surprised by his creations. Siri claims he “manages ten rice dishes at once”, responding with the ease of a chef, who today is responsible for preparing delights such as rice with goat meat, a typical dish of the island executed with mastery.

He is accompanied by another migrant, Mangi, who also works in this establishment as a waiter.

“A meal that sends you to the sofa”

During his visit, Cocituber enjoyed a feast with some of the most representative dishes of Canarian cuisine. The escaldón, made with meat, cheese, mojo, and other leftover ingredients, was one of his favourite dishes. The critic went so far as to say that everything “is absolutely delicious, just like grandmothers used to make it.” Afterwards, he had the classic garbanzas with chorizo, blood sausage, and vegetables, along with a mixed cheese of cow and goat sprinkled with gofio that was “very tasty.”

To finish, Cocituber devoured a Canarian quesillo and a Príncipe Alberto, a mousse with biscuit, to cap off a meal “that sends you to the sofa.”

The guachinche Como en Casa not only offers ample and tasty food, but also a unique dining experience. With everything he savoured, the critic ended up overly satisfied: “I can’t eat any more, I’m heading back to the Peninsula.”
