Germán López and Javier Infante head a premiere that marks the start of four months of heritage programming
The NOON Canarias Festival kicks off its sixth edition this weekend and simultaneously launches a concert schedule that will link Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, Tenerife and El Hierro until 26th October, always at 12:00 h and with free access until full capacity is reached. In total, there will be 75 events featuring Canary Islands formations and soloists in some of the most unique heritage sites in the archipelago.
The first day concentrates activities in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and La Gomera, while El Hierro will join on Sunday, 3rd August, when the Sunday slot will start there, maintaining the festival’s usual pattern: Saturdays in Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, and La Gomera; Sundays in Tenerife and El Hierro.
The opening will combine two major figures of Canary Islands music and an emerging chamber ensemble. The timplista Germán López will kick things off on Saturday, 19th at the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de La Hoz in Arrecife and will repeat on Sunday, 20th at the Casa del Vino de Tenerife, the festival’s Sunday venue. Simultaneously, on that Saturday, the Faro de Maspalomas will host guitarist Javier Infante, a key figure in contemporary island jazz, while the Patio Canario of the Cultural Centre for the Elderly in San Sebastián de La Gomera will welcome the Dúo Roma, featuring violin and cello, highlighting NOON’s commitment to chamber music in heritage spaces.
For Germán López, performing at noon in venues with history is “always brings a very nice energy for both the artists and the audience. We are lucky to once again experience this at the festival.” Infante agrees with the uniqueness of the format: “Noon is a space where music and arts find an eager audience hungry for new experiences, and I feel honoured to be part of its programming. Participating in festivals that promote culture is always a pleasure. I’m excited about the opportunity to share my music and connect with the audience in different corners of the islands.” The festival also maintains its sustainable commitment, inviting attendees to use public transport and reduce plastic use during the events.
Driven by Vector de Ideas, the NOON Canarias Festival has the main sponsorship of Promotur Islas Canarias and the support of the Vice Ministry of Culture and Cultural Heritage of the Government of the Canary Islands, the municipalities of Arrecife and San Sebastián de La Gomera, the Tenerife Rural Foundation of the Tenerife Cabildo, and the FEDAC of the Gran Canaria Cabildo. In its sixth edition, the initiative strengthens its role as a platform linking music, heritage, and tourism, highlighting Canary Islands talent on the most emblematic stages of the archipelago.
