Lifeguard at Tenerife pool arrested after being convicted of abusing four minors in 2022

Officers from the National Police have arrested a man in the municipality of Arona, Tenerife, who was convicted of four counts of sexual abuse against minors under 16 in 2022.

He had a special disqualification penalty for any profession or trade that involves regular and direct contact with minors, which was pending enforcement.

Despite this, the man was working as a lifeguard at a municipal swimming pool in Arona, where swimming lessons and summer camps aimed at minors were reportedly being held.

Thanks to the efforts made by the officers, it was revealed that the individual had validated internships in educational centres and accessed environments of special sensitivity for children by presenting a modified criminal record certificate.

He also submitted documentation justifying that he had completed internships at a sports centre, which had been manipulated as he never actually undertook them, the National Police reports.

At the time of his location, he was performing duties as a lifeguard, which led to his arrest and subsequent placement at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.

The National Police emphasises that the actions of the officers were “decisive” in protecting all the minors who attended the pool, especially during this time of year when attendance is much higher due to training and recreational events.
