Emergency services from Tenerife Fire Brigade are working on a fire in Finca España, in the municipality of La Laguna.
The fire is affecting an area of estates.
High temperatures mean firefighters are working hard to prevent the fire from spreading further, as several homes are nearby.
Extreme Weather Conditions
According to a warning issued by Emergency Services, this heatwave is bringing maximum temperatures of between 34 and 40 degrees, along with abnormally high minimums that hinder nighttime thermal recovery.
A thermal inversion below 400 metres is also being recorded, along with humidity levels below 30% at altitudes above 400 metres, and strong northeast winds in mid-altitude and high areas, with gusts that could reach or exceed 70 to 90 km/h.
Additionally, there is a presence of calima, although it is expected to lessen.
Current Alerts Across the Archipelago
Aside from the fire risk, a maximum temperature warning is still in effect for all the islands, as well as wind alerts in La Gomera and Gran Canaria, reinforcing the need for caution.
The Canary Islands Government recommends that the public avoid unnecessary travel to mountainous or mid-altitude areas, follow the guidance of emergency services, and stay alert for possible updates on the situation.
