The judge closes the investigation into the meeting held by Gustavo Matos with Mohamed Derbah.

The judge Carmen Rosa del Pino Abrante, head of Instruction 3 in Arona, has decided to dismiss the case that investigated the meeting held in 2022 between the then president of the Canary Islands Parliament, Gustavo Matos, and businessman Mohamed Derbah.

In a ruling dated the 14th, the instructor states that Gustavo Matos “is neither a suspect nor an investigated party,” as reported by Canarias Ahora.

The decision to archive this line of investigation effectively puts an end to the part of the case that concerned Matos, who has always maintained that the meeting had no connection to the investigated case.

The plot began to unravel when the National Police arrested Mohamed Derbah on the 1st of May, accusing him of leading a criminal organisation with connections on the island.

Gustavo Matos had become involved in this scheme due to a meeting he had with the accused, who was purportedly involved in protecting cannabis clubs that acted as a front for drug trafficking.

Matos has always insisted that he attended the meeting at the request of the businessman when it was still unknown that he was under investigation.

This meeting, held in the café of a large department store in Tenerife, was recorded by one of the attendees and, after the police found it among the electronic devices seized following the initial arrests, it was widely circulated by the press.
