National Police arrest 16 fugitives wanted internationally in Tenerife in 2025

The National Police have arrested 16 fugitives in Santa Cruz de Tenerife this year, who are wanted by international authorities.

In total, nine extraditions have been carried out to fulfil the international requests received through the central investigating courts of the National Court in Madrid, as detailed by the National Police in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the National Police, locating and arresting international fugitives is complex and requires a significant amount of resources.

An example of this is the most recent fugitive who was wanted by German authorities, for whom there was a European Arrest Warrant due to the alleged commission of blackmail and extortion offences, with penalties that could reach up to 15 years in prison.

The fugitive took stringent self-protection measures to avoid identification, even maintaining the appearance of residing outside the country; however, the agents managed to locate her in the south of the island, where she was arrested, the statement adds.

Among the latest arrests are also two fugitives wanted by Italy and Venezuela for alleged drug trafficking offences.

The first, for whom there is a European Arrest Warrant, was allegedly involved in cocaine trafficking in Italy, and the competent judicial authority has ordered his imprisonment.

The second fugitive was allegedly distributing cocaine on the Colombia-Venezuela route and was considered dangerous; an appropriate deportation process has been initiated for her due to her irregular status in the country.
