Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote: at risk from temperatures reaching 37 degrees
Heat is here to stay in the province of Las Palmas. The State Meteorological Agency will issue an orange alert for heat on the islands of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote starting Wednesday, when temperatures are expected to reach 37 degrees on these three islands.

This is the first widespread heat alert of the summer, following the episode on July 3, which only affected certain municipalities in Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Until this Monday, the trade wind regime had been keeping temperatures down in the island capitals, with occasional showers included.

The State Meteorological Agency activates the heat alert from Tuesday in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura with a yellow level (risk) and a forecast of 35 degrees. On Wednesday, it will change to orange level (significant risk) in Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, and the whole of Gran Canaria, except for the northern slope.

On that day, yellow alerts will also come into effect across Tenerife, La Gomera, and El Hierro, as well as in the summits and western slopes of La Palma, where temperatures of 35 degrees are expected. The fourth will also see another alert for the risk of wildfires in Gran Canaria.
