After more than a decade of delays since work began in 2009, the Tenerife municipality of Buenavista del Norte will finally have a new medical clinic, which will start operating on 17 July. The project, driven by the Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands Government, has involved a total investment of 2,239,193 euros and will enhance healthcare services for more than 2,100 people.
The President of Canarias, Fernando Clavijo, the Minister of Health, Esther Monzón, and the President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, accompanied by the municipality’s mayor, Eva García, visited the new facility. In this regard, the mayor described the opening of the centre as a “long-awaited achievement” for the local residents.
The new health centre is part of the Basic Health Zone (ZBS) of Los Silos-Buenavista, which serves a total of 8,353 people, of whom 2,168 reside in Buenavista del Norte. According to data from the Canary Health Service (SCS), 34.6% of these residents are over 65 years old and 10.8% are over 80, highlighting the necessity for accessible and tailored medical services.
An important facility for the elderly
The new health centre is located within the Basic Health Zone (ZBS) of Los Silos-Buenavista, serving a total of 8,353 people, of whom 2,168 reside in Buenavista del Norte. According to data from the Canary Health Service (SCS), 34.6% of these residents are over 65 years old and 10.8% are over 80, reinforcing the need for nearby and adapted medical services.
Modern facilities and more healthcare personnel
The building, covering 1,325 square metres, is distributed over three levels: ground floor, basement, and top floor. Of the total investment, 2.09 million euros were allocated to the construction of the centre, and 147,220 euros to its equipment.
Medical services available at the new centre
The clinic will offer:
- Two Family and Community Medicine consultation rooms
- Two Family and Community Nursing consultation rooms
- One Pediatrics consultation room and another for Pediatric Nursing
- Two multipurpose consultation rooms
- Room for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Emergency area, waiting rooms, and restrooms
- Administration, storage, and sterilisation spaces
The basement houses administrative areas, a pharmacy, a meeting room, changing rooms, and technical rooms.
The assigned staff includes two family doctors, two community nurses, one pediatrician, one pediatric nurse, and two administrative assistants.
One paediatrician for the entire area
The child population in the Los Silos-Buenavista del Norte area, which totals 769 minors, is attended by a single paediatrician who divides their time between the Health Centre of Los Silos and the new clinic in Buenavista del Norte. The current model continues, with a weekly distribution of consultations between both locations, as reported by the Ministry.
